Suspect arrested in Menlo Park robberies

A fake gun, a purse and several stolen cellphones led police on Monday night to arrest a Menlo Park teenager on suspicion of robbery.

Is "replica gun" what we used to call a toy gun or does it mean something else?

it means something different from a toy gun. Replica guns look just like real guns and are easily mistaken for same.

Well - as I said in a comment yesterday - this was a stupid, stupid crime, because his benefit was minimal compared to the potential consequences. (Not that any crime is justified.) Hopefully they are realizing the error of their ways ....
