Menlo Park: BevMo burglar gets away with an empty box

Original post made on Aug 13, 2014

A burglar apparently stole a valuable bottle of 30-year-old MacAllan whisky from Beverages and More at 700 El Camino Real on Saturday, Aug. 9, but what he actually got away with was the tall box meant to hold the bottle.

Uh, what, Timmy?

On another note -- the burglar in this case sure isn't Rhodes Scholar material...

I totally agree this burglar would make a great candidate for the 2015 Darwin Awards. Obviously not the sharpest tool in the tool shed.

@paf, @gina -

fyi, the Darwin awards are not simply synonymous with a demonstration of a lack of intelligence, though that characteristic certainly improves the probability of receiving the award. The Darwin award is given only posthumously to those individuals who have improved our chances of survival as a species by removing themselves from gene pool in spectacular and uncommon fashion of their own device. The rules also preclude nomination of individuals who do so while including innocent victims in their act.

Since the individual in this case remains alive and thus a candidate to procreate, he is ineligible to be nominated for a Darwin award.

Maybe he's a whiskey enthusiast and wanted the box for a collage he and his girlfriend are making on whiskeys they would love to sample if only they had the money.
