Atherton has asked the board of the Menlo Park Fire Protection District to take part in the town’s new civic center by housing an emergency response team onsite, beefing up the emergency communications system, reserving a part of a new emergency operations center or even “developing permanent space at the site.”
“We want the district to be part of this project,” a letter sent by Atherton Mayor Rick DeGolia to fire board head Virginia Chang Kiraly says.
Ms. Chang Kiraly said the fire board will probably consider the request in November.

Any chance for this severely underfunded boondoggle to get a few more bucks. Why else has this project progressed so slowly with no public statements about how fundraising is going.
Measure L: “Should the Town of Atherton primarily use private donations to construct and design a new Town Center? Other funding sources might include funds derived from Building fees or future grant money but would not use general fund or parcel tax money.”
Arguments For Measure L included the statement:
“A yes vote ensures that the Council is true to its word. This ballot measure insures that no tax dollars or bond measures would be used for this project-as promised repeatedly.”
All the Fire District has are tax dollars so how could the Fire District legally contribute to this project?
