The Atherton Police Department has reported the second burglary in two days, both taking place during morning hours in homes where the occupants were away, and both on streets near Middlefield Road.

The latest burglary occurred on Thursday (Feb. 25) between 10 a.m. and 12:45 p.m., police said. Someone entered a home on the 0-99 block of James Avenue through an unlocked side door, and jewelry and a computer were taken from the master bedroom and office of the home, police said.

The Wednesday burglary was on the 100 block of Burns Avenue, where a home was entered by breaking the glass in a rear door. It took place between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m., police said.

Police ask anyone with information about either crime to call the Atherton Police Department at 650-688-6500. They remind residents to lock doors and turn on alarm systems.
