Solar panel installations at the Arrillaga Family Gymnasium and Gymnastics Center, the city corporation yard and the Onetta Harris Community Center in Menlo Park have been completed.
To celebrate, the city is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at Menlo Park City Hall, 701 Laurel St. in the Civic Center. There will be refreshments.
These solar installations will offset about 80 percent of the current PG&E energy use at each of the buildings where solar panels were installed, according to the city of Menlo Park website.
Over a 20-year period, the panels are expected to save about $461,000 in energy costs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by the city by 419 tons, the city said.
The city received about $71,000 worth of energy rebates from PG&E’s California Solar Incentive rebate program.
Can the reporter confirm that the solar panels are actually providing power to all of the City buildings where the panels are located? I talked to one of the workers and was told that the panels installed on the Arrillaga Gymnastics center roof are going to power City Hall, and the Gymnastics Center is receiving none of the solar benefits. “These solar installations will offset about 80 percent of the current PG&E energy use at each of the buildings where solar panels were installed”. Maybe..maybe not.
