Sacred Heart Prep boys basketball coach Tony Martinelli earned Central Coast Section Honor Coach accolades, the CCS office announced this week.

Martinelli has coached the Gators to five CCS titles in his nine years at the school. He enters Tuesday night’s game against visiting The King’s Academy (6:30 p.m.) with an overall 194-76 record.

His teams have won at least 15 games in every year. Sacred Heart Prep is currently 7-8 (4-2 in the West Bay Athletic League) after starting the year 1-6.

The 2010-11 squad finished 25-3 (.893) and with a CCS Division IV championship trophy. The Gators last won a CCS title in 2014, and have reached the CCS semifinals in each of the past two seasons, including in the Open Division in 2015.

From the official release, “Consistently pointing to players and members of the coaching staff to give credit for the success, coach Martinelli is the definition of a humble leader. Earning the respect of peers, coworkers, players, and of officials alike, coach Martinelli is the epitome of a mature coach who handles himself with grace and dignity.”
