Menlo-Atherton Bears to Move to Action to Help Alleviate Blood Shortage
Schools & Kids, posted by Kelly Todd, a member of the Menlo-Atherton High School community, on Jan 14, 2008 at 11:35 am

The Bay Area faces a dire shortage of blood, this Friday, January 18, the Menlo-Atherton Bears will be working with the Blood Centers of the Pacific (BCP) to collect much needed blood.

Some area hospitals have been asked to postpone or even cancel suregeries due to the shortage. O negative blood is the most precious right now since it is the universal donor type. Universal means that it can be given to anyone in an emergency.

The Menlo-Atherton Bears will be hosting a blood drive this Friday, January 18 from 8:00am-2:00pm in the Blood Vans in the front of the campus facing Middlefield Road. The Bears are looking to help their community members one pint at a time.

(Blood Centers of the Pacific is a community-based, nonprofit organization that supplies volunteer blood donations to 40 hospitals throughout Northern California. To donate blood, call 888-393-GIVE or visit www.bloodcenters.org.
