I absolutely agree that in a technological world we need a president who understands science. I am embarrased to see our country nominate someone who favors creationism. How can they be expected to understand the workings of physics if they can't tell religion from science? The Bush administration has done untold harm to science in this country by putting non-scientist political appointees in charge of oversight committees and by restricting visas and foreign visits, both to and from the U.S., that damage the flow of information so vital to fundamental science research. With no concept of what science is and how scientists work, they have trampled all over our ability to do good research in this country. Unfortunately, I see more of the same if a Republican is elected.
