I am a liberated woman, teacher, mother and grandmother who is very concerned with the future of all children and grandchildren. I am also not fooled by the media blitz of this last week in picking the future leaders of our country.

Neither major candidate is anywhere close to expressing the original vision of this country, which includes:

- minding our own affairs rather than running an empire

- civil liberties and property rights

- limited powers of the federal government

In the original vision of this nation, energy policy, employment, health care, and housing prices would not be matters of interest to the President (or indeed the Congress) in the least. They believed those matters should be left to the states or local government, not far off potentates in Washington that can only with great difficulty be influenced by the people.
