Derry Developer Reports $80,000 War Chest
Menlo Park Elections, posted by LateBreakingNews, a resident of the Menlo Park: Downtown neighborhood, on Nov 6, 2006 at 10:34 pm

A new PAC call "Friends of Derry Lane" has been established and is filing reports with the city. There is an 11/2/06 filing by the Friends of Derry lane, sponsored by the O'Brien Group, with donations of

$60,000 cash and $24,147 Nonmonetary contributions by the O'Brien Group, including affiliated entities.

This report also included a payment of $10,000 to Olson Consulting in Tulare for "petition circulating".

Its not clear that the O'Brien Group war chest is being used in any way in the current election, but putting $60,000k in war chests suggest they anticipate their project approvals will be placed on the ballot from (a possibly lame duck) slate, rather than get rescinded, and they are prepared to spend big to win.

Great, more hired goons to intimidate little old ladies around town to prevent opposition to the O'Brien family of projects. Better start those self-defense classes at Little House quick!

If the Election results are any indication, it takes more than money to change the political environment in Menlo Park.

O'Brien hired Olson Consulting to confront the petition signature gatherers and dissuade signers - a fatal move on their part; it just made the referendum effort stronger.

It is my hope the O'Brien group would put their time, efforts, and money toward creating projects that benefit, not divide the community.

Thank goodness the backroom developer deals of Winkler, Duboc and Jellins are a thing of the past!
