Letter: Mean-spirited editorial on Everest charter

As a regular booster of Almanac coverage, I am mystified at the almost mean-spirited editorial on Feb. 25 regarding the Everest charter school proposal. The editorial stance you have taken ignores the intent of the charter school act, and inaccurately portrays a decent man and an excellent school superintendent who is carrying out his responsibilities.

As I recall, the advent of Charter Schools embodied a desire to get out from under the archaic Education Code and the control of the unions, to allow a much more efficient operation. It sounded like a win win situation for students, teachers and taxpayers. But, the unions wouldn't let it happen.
