Menlo-Atherton senior Chloe Songer is one of four students chosen to represent the United States at UNICEF’s 2009 Children’s Climate Change Forum in Copenhagen, Denmark from November 28 to December 5, 2009. Chloe will join approximately 160 other students from 40 countries around the world who will meet prior to the COP15 United Nations Climate Change conference. During their meeting youth will develop a policy platform that will be presented to international leaders on day one of the COP15 meeting.

The UNICEF Children’s Climate Forum (CCF) is a new youth event organized by UNICEF Denmark. The goal of the CCF program is to give youth a voice in international climate change policy development at the United Nations convention.

Chloe Songer’s involvement in environmental activism began during her freshman year at Menlo-Atherton. She is one of the founding members of the school Environmental Committee, has been instrumental in the design and implementation of the school recycling center, and is spearheading a five-session personal behavior and climate change curriculum in nine ninth grade classes where Environmental committee members are the teachers of this curriculum. Each "teacher" has participated in over 15 hours of training at Stanford's Precourt Center for Energy Efficiency and the Alliance for Climate Education.

In addition, Chloe and the 16 members of the Environmental Committee have launched a year long Climate Change awareness campaign composed of school wide assemblies, weekly Environmental trivia contests, 350 day education, “greening” of sports teams, and planned Earth Hour and Earth Week activities.
