The unfortunate part of this story is that the Town has still not issued a statement regarding this settlement. The citizens deserve to know who made the decision to settle and why and how the amount was determined as well as what steps have been taken to prevent future incidents of this type.

The Town of Atherton is accustomed to getting away with snoring their way through all situations like one this and far worse examples of dereliction of duty and moral abandonment. The leadership and management both, have convinced themselves that in order to "PROTECT" the town's reputation (???), they are mandated to deflect, ignore, and disregard every attempt to hold them a to account for anything. This tact has the added benefit of causing even the local press and county authorities to surrender in complete frustration from expecting anything to ever be properly resolved. It seems to be generally accepted that Atherton is special (read hopeless) and not worth much focus. The residents and outsiders alike, are expected to except that it is simple not practical for any one to try to "fight city hall" but even more importantly-- no one should expect an apology or a truthful explanation.
