Menlo-Atherton Stuns Burlingame with Upset Victory

The M-A Bears traveled to Burlingame to face the first place Panthers. Burlingame, undefeated in PAL with a significant win already over Serra this year who in turn had defeated De La Salle was a heavy favorite going into the game. M-A played tenacious team defense holding Pulicero to 2 points in the first half, and went into half time leading 24-18. Coach Phil White for the Bears reminded his team that they needed to give their best for 32 minutes, having already played for 16. The Bears did just that. Near the end of the game, Burlingame tied the game, but a key three by Reed Foster and dagger free throws by Jeff Keller gave the Bears the cushion they needed to pull off the upset. Jeff Keller lead the bears with 13 points but is was the play of Nils Gilbertson and Reed foster that shut down the front line of Burlingame that sealed the win. Michael Culhane and Myles Brewer combined for 13 points while McKinley Mathon added 5.
