Atherton initiates an investigation on altered police report
Atherton, posted by newsmaker, a resident of the Atherton: other neighborhood, on Apr 14, 2010 at 5:27 pm

In what has become a byzantine story of intrigue, corruption, scandal and misinformation another chapter appears is being written in the continuing saga of the mid peninsula\'s most dysfunctional government.

It was reported on Atherton\'s Town blog today that an investigation by the Town has been initiated into allegations of a falsified police report.

The mysteries are multifacted in this latest development. The first question is what kind of investigation has been initiated? Was it a criminal investigation? Such does not appear to be the case. There is no mention of this development on the Police Department\'s blog. Then again, the DA or the Attorney General don\'t publish on the Atherton PD\'s blog.

The other quesiton is which altered police report is being investigated? Was it the one referred to by Officer Tony Dennis during his sworn testimony in open court regarding the Jon Buckheit matter? Or the police report surrounding the raid on ex Finance Director John Johns\' office when he was suspended in 2007?

Both Mr. Buckheit and Mr. Johns have requested that investigations be initiated. However until now, their calls for in inquiry appeared to have fallen on deaf ears.

Another question is who will conduct the investigation? This is perhaps the touchiest issue of them all.

It is quite evident that Ms. Furth is not up to the task, additionally, if this is an investigation into police conduct it is doubtful anybody in the City Manager\'s Office will be able to penetrate the \"thin blue line\".

Then there\'s the tricky issue of Mr. Buckheit having a civil rights case pending against the court.

Finally Atherton\'s blog suggests that the investigation was \"initiated by the Town\". However the blog does not say who is conducting the investigation.

So far the District Attorney seems to have been loath to step into the fray. So this begs the question has Atherton called on a \"higher authority\"?
