I believe you need to correct the text in this story about the election results for the Sequoia Healthcase District and offer an apology to Dr. Jerry Shefren. I don't believe he's ever been known as "Jack" Shefren.

Regarding the preliminary election results, the next update will be on November 5, 2010 4:30PM as originally stated by Stogner.
We should all hope that Ruth West-Gorrin overtakes Art Faro to replace him on the Board. Mr. Faro is Chair of the Sequoia Hospital Board which, in my opinion, creates a conflict of interest. Board member Katie Kane also sits on the Sequoia Hospital Board. I brought the conflict of interest question to the attention of the Sequoia Healthcare District Board of Directors when they were considering a grant to the Sequoia Hospital Foundation. Directors Kane and Faro did not abstain from voting.
The Almanac statement: "The Sequoia Healthcare District, like all health care districts in the state, used to oversee a public hospital. The state Legislature changed the missions of these districts in 1994 to reflect an evolution of medical practice away from hospital services and toward outpatient services." mistates the facts.
In 1994, there was no Sequoia Healthcare District, it was then the Sequoia Hospital District. The state Legislature enabled the means (requiring voter approval) for creation of "Healthcare Districts". It wasn't until November 2000 that the District "morphed" into a Healthare District without voter approval. See: Web Link

Mr Hickey: Congratulations on the election Jack
Were you ever able (as an elected board member) to get access to how much the Sequoia Healthcare District is paying ex Police Chief Glen Neilson? Also do you still have Nadine Levine on payroll while she is actually here in Atherton as "bridge city manager"
I understand that you have fellow board members who don't want you to see how our tax money gets spent, but please keep trying and post the answers to these question here.

Mr. Hickey thanks for posting the above check register link.
I am at least as curious and confused as I was before getting a peek into the SHCD books and will need more time to review the scant accounting provided to you even as an elected board member.
Did I understand you correctly that Ms. Kurtsman's family makes the cardiac supplies that her Heartsafe project then purchases with district grants? Could you please request that she give an accounting to the board of how her grant money is spent, and how much of it Glen Neilson receives and what for?
Also Other than a reference to "initial start up funding" of 30,000$ for Nadine Levin's walk to the bus program referenced in the Feb 2nd and 3rd meeting minutes with her 15,000$ contract April to June--I do not see any checks cut to her either, so again I would urge you to request the accounting records for her program as well.
I am shocked at the resistance you have been subjected to, from your board president to receive the documentation that you were elected to be responsible for.
It has me wondering if "the district" has somehow "morphed into an exclusive witness protection program for friends of "those of us who matter" The fellowship with RWC 20/20 has me wondering how many favor factories the county has up and running, disguised with good intentions. In this economy their is a very real need for social services to be strategically targeted--this looks like a top heavy gravy train for the wrong kettle of fish.
I will try to bring the older "endorsements SHCD" thread forward here so that people can examine the links you provided earlier--thanks again Jack

Louise said: "Did I understand you correctly that Ms. Kurtsman's family makes the cardiac supplies that her Heartsafe project then purchases with district grants?"
That is incorrect.
The Heartsafe Program was initiated by former SHCD CEO Stephani Scott, former CEO of Sustainable San Mateo County Web Link, now Executive Director of the SMCCCD Foundation ($148,000/year salary paid by SMCCCD) which contributed $64,260 to support Measure G, the parcel tax, Web Link: No on Measure G&eddate=06/02/2010 01:56:00. While CEO of shcd, her spouse was listed on her Form 700 as a high level employee of a company involved in the manufacturer of defibrillators.
I urge interested parties to attend the next meeting of the SHCD Board of Directors; See Web Link to ask questions about the legitimacy of the District, and their reluctance to provide information to an elected director.
