Report by Jim Gallagher, Vikings Boosters

Menlo-Atherton's Pop Warner Vikings scored a clean sweep during the Oct. 7-8 weekend over football forces from the Delta, defeating teams from Delta Bay and Brentwood North at Menlo-Atherton High. Following is a summary of the results.

Tiny Mites: The smallest Vikings set the tone for the weekend on Saturday, Oct. 7, dominating the Delta Bay Falcons in a non-scoring contest. Floyd Gazaway ran for two touchdowns, and De'Maurier Jackson also tallied. Sprinter Kai Winterling broke loose on a 50-yard gallop. P.J. Lopez ran a reverse for big yardage, and Drew Wyman was cited for strong blocking. Devin Dohrman's tackling keyed a powerful defense.

Mitey Mites: Malcolm Gates and Amal Duriseti spilled a Brentwood Falcon runner for a critical safety as the Vikings pulled out a hard-fought 14-12 victory on Saturday, Oct. 7. Cameron Kirkpatrick and Jack Posthauer scored M-A touchdowns, and David Teu delivered a 40-yard sweep deep into Brentwood territory. During a scoreless second half, the Vikings protected their slim two-point margin behind stout defense from Matt Odell, Anthony Gabb and Robbie Beardsley.

Junior PeeWees: Rebounding from last week's first defeat, the Vikings pummeled Brentwood North 27-0 on Sunday, Oct. 8. Devin Asiasi and Zhi'ir James scored first-half touchdowns, and Khalil (Lil) James fled 59 yards for a third-quarter score, followed by a Kyle Barrett two-point conversion kick. Landon Baty's 20-yard fumble return and Baty's nine-yard pass to Barrett set up an 11-yard scoring run by Ryan Blocker. Baty's conversion pass to Blocker capped the scoring. Pass interceptions by Zhi'ir James and Stephen Chu choked off any Falcon offensive hopes.

PeeWees: Trailing 18-13 at halftime, Menlo-Atherton stormed back for a convincing 34-18 victory over Brentwood's Falcons. Keenan Gates broke away for two touchdowns, one on an explosive 60-yard sprint. Sean Barrett also scored twice, and fullback Alex Lopez bulled over for a fifth touchdown. Talaisi (T) Teu, a standout on defense, kicked a two-point conversion. Marcus Franklin grabbed a key interception for the locals, and Nick Voskuil contributed a stellar two-way performance.

Midgets: Quarterback Josiah Paye's aerial circus and cornerback David Mapa's clamp-down defense led the Vikings to a 33-8 rout over the visiting Falcons. Marquise Tolson and B.J. Prema each caught two scoring strikes from the strong-armed Paye, and Tavasa Pale raced for another touchdown. In the day's defensive highlight, lineman Leo Tovo intercepted a Falcon pass and rumbled 65 yards to set up an M-A touchdown.
