Coaches disrespectful to umpires
Sports, posted by little league parent, a resident of the Menlo Park: Central Menlo Park neighborhood, on Apr 5, 2007 at 3:55 pm

During a little game at La Entrada last night, the coaches of one on the teams repeatedly bullied the umpires of the game. Each umpire seemed to be a high school student and each seemed knowledgeable about the game.

The coaches loudly questioned several calls made by the umpires, IN FRONT OF THEIR TEAMS! They yelled from the side, did not ask to speak to the umpires, and showed so much disrespect it was unbelievable.

During one inning, there must have been 100 pitches thrown, and the home plate ump had to call each one of them. If he dared call one that the coaches did not agree with, they were right there badgering him.

How are kids supposed to learn to respect authority when their coaches are teaching them this behavior? It seems that they are lucky to have these kids, who I doubt are making enough to supply their gas.

Another time, a kid was hit in the head with the ball. The ump told him to take his base. Big mouth from the dugout screamed, "did the ball hit the bat first?? Cause I heard the ball hit the bat first!" The ump stopped the action, and felt he needed to explain the call.

GROW UP COACHES and don't complain when your own kids mouth off to you. They learned it from the experts.

Which Little League was this? There are two in Menlo Park?

Absolutely appalling. The league needs to do something about this.
