"Everyone's nervous," said Sheldon Breiner (photo), a geophysicist at Stanford University and a resident of Portola Valley who said he's gotten lots of questions from neighbors since the devastating March 11 earthquake and subsequent tsunami off the coast of northwestern Japan.

So let's all get very prepared for the 8.0 quake that is coming our way at some point! 8.0 is very, very powerful indeed. Our thanks to Sheldon Breiner for the expert comparison on the quake/tsunami in Japan and our local geology.

Short answer: Yes, it can. Pray it's not anytime soon, though.
Especially since a certain group wants to cut the budget of NOAA by 30%.
NOAA runs the tsunami warning center. That's too much big government, apparently.
