MA Bears Varsity Baseball Team Pulls One Out
Sports, posted by Linda Lange, a member of the Menlo-Atherton High School community, on Mar 25, 2011 at 8:07 pm

The Ma Bears Varsity baseball team played the Sequoia Cherokees for a rematch in more ways than one. The home team once again pulled it out in the bottom of an inning, this time the 7th not the 10th, with the same final score 4-3, and the same rain spattered weather. But this time the MA Bears were the home team and they pulled it out with Dylan Cook blooping a Texas Leaguer into left field with men on second and third scoring the tie run. Following an intentional walk to Miles Brewer (for the second game in a row), teammate Michael Ogrey, earned a full count walk to force in the winning run.

The Cherokees had started the game with a first inning run on 2 doubles for the only score until the third when they scored 2 runs on 3 singles. The Bears answered back with a bunt-a-rama. Isaac Block lead off with a single, moved to second on a sac bunt by Cam Winn, moved to third on Casey Eason's bunt single and scored on Kyle Zirbes' bunt single. For the 4th bunt, Nick Lange pushed one up the third base line to load the bases. Dylan Cook went for a fifth, but the Cherokees nailed the runner at home. Miles Brewer added on with an RBI single for a score of 2-3 which held until the bottom of the 7th.

Defensively, the Bears completed double plays in the 6th and the 7th to end Cherokee hopes of scoring. Miles Brewer pitched 6 innings with 5 strike outs, 6 hits and 2 earned runs to keep the Bears in the game. Kyle Zirbes came in in relief in the 7th to shut the door for the win.

The Varsity Bears are now 6-3 on the season and 1-1 in league play.
