Menlo Atherton Bears Varsity win it all at Cordova Tournament
Sports, posted by Linda Lange, a member of the Menlo-Atherton High School community, on Apr 22, 2011 at 10:46 am

The Menlo Atherton Bears Varsity brought home the trophy from the Cordova Easter tournament beating Cordova High School 6-2 on Thursday April 21. Tournament MVP, Miles Brewer, once again worked his magic with a no doubt, 2 run, blast over the fence for his third home run of the tournament. He also pitched 2 innings of relief to dash the hopes of a comeback by Cordova. Outfielder Nick Lange, one of 4 Bears elected to the all tournament team, was challenged in Brewer's last 2 innings, with 5 plays, 3 diving attempts, (one staying in his glove) and 2 routine catches including the last out of the game. The infield (Alex Aguiar, Casey Eason, Isaac Block and Dylan Cook) behind pitcher Kyle Zirbes, also on the all tournament team, flawlessly completed 12 more outs. Zirbes struck out 4, allowed only 3 hits, and 1 run for his best performance of the season. The fourth member of the all tournament team is Michael Ogrey for his masterful pitching debut against Lindhurst on Tuesday. And the Bears could never do it without Cam Winn behind the plate calling pitches, blocking everything (no passed balls) and providing a calm consistent presence to keep his team on task.

To recap: Tournament Champion: MA Bears 4-1: scored 45 runs, gave up 6

Tournament MVP: Miles Brewer

All Tournament Team: Nick Lange, Cam Winn, Kyle Zirbes, Michael Ogrey, Miles Brewer

Worst Coin Toss record: Coach Mike Amoroso 0-5
