Menlo Park Library launches Summer Reading Program
Schools & Kids, posted by Menlo Park Library, a resident of the Menlo Park: Downtown neighborhood, on May 14, 2007 at 10:51 am

Monday, May 14, 2007

Super sleuths and daring detectives are invited to join Get a Clue@Your Library at the Menlo Park Public Library. The 2007 Summer Reading Program is open to young people, preschool through young adult, with programs, prize drawings, entertainment, a reading club, and more.

Studies show that children can and do improve their reading ability during the school year, but they lose reading ability during the summer if they don’t read. Children who read during the summer can actually improve their reading ability. Sign up, read books and keep a log of your reading to earn prizes and attend our fun entertainment performances. Registration begins June 10, 2007.

Please join us at 1:00 pm, under the big oak tree on the lawn adjacent to the library for these fun programs:

Thursday, June 28, 2007 Norman the Magician

Thursday, July 12, 2007 PT Puppet Theatre

Thursday, July 19, 2007* The Bubble Lady (This event will be held in the community room of the library. Space is limited. Summer Reading Program participants only please)

Thursday, July 26, 2007 Dana Smith and his performing dog Lacey

Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007 Janet Sirett Children’s Musician

Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007 Wildlife Associates presents Creepy Critters

We will have musical programs for the younger children on the following dates:

Wednesday, June 27 at 10:00 Geta Pederson

Wednesday, July 25 at 10:00 Bonnie Lockhart

For more information, call the Children’s Department at 650-330-2530 or visit our website at Web Link . The library welcomes children of all abilities, and all programs are free of charge.

When I was a kid, I looked forward to the library's summer reading program all year. I'm so happy they still do it!

I still have some of the books I "won" that I saved to pass on to my kids.
