Lions Club accepts Grants from Healthcare Districts
Other Topics, posted by Jack Hickey, a resident of the Woodside: Emerald Hills neighborhood, on Jan 3, 2012 at 1:40 pm

Lions Club International Foundation on it’s website Web Link says “LCIF helps Lions improve peoples’ lives around the world...” It also states that “Our funds come from individuals”.

As Founder of Citizen Advocates for Private Philanthropy, I am deeply disturbed by the local Lion’s acceptance of Grants from the Peninsula Healthcare District and the Sequoia Healthcare District on whose board I serve. Perhaps they were not aware that these Grants come from public funds derived from property taxes.

The local Lions Club has been compromised by the Sequoia Healthcare District, which is struggling to justify its existence by agressive promotion its Heartsafe Program at taxpayers expense. Meanwhile, Heartsafe Program Manager, Glenn Nielson, appears to be accumulating "political capital" for what will likely be a run for elected office. This wouldn't be the first time the Sequoia Healthcare District's taxpayer funded PR campaigns aided a candidate.

Here is an example of what I thought Lions Clubs do:

(Wisconsin)LIONS CLUB DONATES $500 TO DEPARTMENT TOWARD DEFIBS

May 2010

The Kronenwetter Lions Club, represented by Emil and Dianne Wasniewski, donated $500 to the police department to be used in purchasing five defibrillators (AED's) for our patrol cars.

A majority of the time our officers are first on scene to medical emergencies, and these AED's will help our officers provide life saving measures quickly.

So you think that ex Atherton Police Chief Glen Neilson, whom the Sequoia Healthcare District recently created a job for has been taking a page from Don Horseley's book on Public Service pension pyramids at the tax payers expense?? I wonder if Horsley would be all that flattered by Glen's attempt to follow him up the food chain. More likely I suppose, that he's at least a little embarrassed.
