Letter: Vendetta against Jack Hickey unwarranted
Other Topics, posted by Editor, The Almanac Online, on Jan 26, 2012 at 9:52 am

The Almanac is perhaps the premier venue for debate in the South Peninsula, and diverse opinions on city planning and high-speed rail have been, for the most part, argued in guest opinions with courtesy and respect.

Jack Hickey has staged a tireless fight to end a District that long ago lost its reason for existence, if it ever had one. Having sold its hospital many years ago, its sole remaining function is to hand out tax loot to favored groups, covering itself with glory in the process. Disgusting. The District should be abolished.

Jack Hickey is a tireless servant of public interests. The article he posted is well researched and right on point. Ms.Griffin's arguments are not convincing and plain offensive. Moreover, most of them are directed at Mr.Hickey personally and not at his valid points. Sad, Ms.Griffin, I expected more of a district chair. One more reason to abolish that wasteful district.

Henry Riggs is correct in his evaluation of matters as they pertain to Mr. Hickey, and especially in his role as a member of the Sequoia Healthcare District board. Readers should remember that if it were not for Mr. Hickey's input, the Sequoia Hospital might very well be located on the mudflats of the bay instead of remaining where it is on the bedrock hillside of western Redwood City. How Ms. Griffin has chosen to portray Mr. Hickey by her comments in the paper are truly unfortunate.

Dissent and opposing arguments are baked into the American way of life. So is majority rule. Chairman Kim Griffin of the Health District has a 3/4 majority. All she has to do is listen to Hickey, call for a Board vote, and then blow him away 3 votes to 1.

Vince Boston may have "stepped over the line" but I ask readers to view his LTE to the San Mateo Daily Journal: Web Link: Dissent good for democracy&eddate=11/04/2011 02:58:00

I don't think Vince stepped over the line. I think he hit the nail on the head.
