Around Town, posted by Editor, The Almanac Online, on Jan 27, 2012 at 2:53 pm

A man in his 60s was beaten and robbed by several men -- including one armed with a handgun -- near the Macy's Men's Store at Stanford Shopping Center Wednesday afternoon, Palo Alto police said.

Too bad California isn't more liberal with concealed carry laws. I frequent that shopping center and had I observed the assailants, I would have subdued them until police arrived.

Democrats love this story, it will prompt them to force the city to hire more police - which will increase thier votes next election.

Wow, Michael. I am stunned that you could turn this sad story into a political argument. You really think more "liberal" concealed carry laws would have helped in this situation? What are the odds that you would have been in the exact right place at the exact right time? And, what are the odds that when you pulled your gun, you would "have subdued them" instead of igniting a fire fight where someone innocent was killed? Wow, just wow.

How about be thankful that this gentleman was not hurt. This crime was clearly one of opportunity. They followed a guy who had been to a jewelry store. These guys were probably casing the jewelry store waiting for this opportunity.

And, I'm sorry, but I don't think anyone is clamoring for hiring more police. But, you should be glad we DO have police and fire and roads and schools and other services that provide for the public good.

Stunned,

Get real. Criminals love your bleeding heart, soft on crime attitude. They view people, such as yourself, as lambs coming to the slaughter. The irrefutable fact is that States that have concealed carry laws have a much lower rate of crimes involving hand guns.

I have my own way of dealing with criminals with guns, a solution that has a very low recidivism rate.
