Atherton: Study shows big traffic impacts from proposed library in park
Atherton, posted by Editor, The Almanac Online, on Mar 31, 2012 at 10:32 pm

A traffic light will be needed to address the increased traffic congestion at Middlefield Road and Watkins Avenue if a new library is built in Atherton's Holbrook-Palmer Park, but there's no feasible way to fix the traffic headache that would develop at Watkins and El Camino Real, according to the environmental study of the planned library project.

Putting another light on ECR is pure insanity. Why don't we use the exisiting town site where there is a large lot that is no longer used by CalTrain. This seems like another example of the inmates running the asylum.

I agree with interested neighbor. In addition to the former CalTrain lot, there is "Reading Park", a practically unused piece of property adjoining the present library. It should not be necessary to overdevelop Holbrook-Palmer Park and turn it into less of a park than it already is. Also, keeping the library out of the park would in part solve the issues about the Watkins Avenue intersections.
