At Hillview school when iPods were big, they were stolen and sold as often as anything else, an apple, a bag of chips, a box of pencils. While iPods were great tools for listening to music, they had no place in a school environment.
Same goes for apples new device, the iPad.
They aren't significantly easier to do computer work on, and they can realistically do about 50% of what a normal computer can do. So even if it's easier to surf the web, your time typing slows down the whole operation by a several fold.
In conclusion, there's nothing you can do on the iPad that you can't do on a regular computer, except maybe surf the web while on the toilet, so why spend an extra 500 odd dollars on a device that's 60% easier to steal and conceal?
