Posted by Andrew, a resident of the Menlo Park: Fair Oaks neighborhood, on Aug 11, 2007 at 12:15 am I'm a native Peninsulan (is that a word?) born and raised in Palo Alto, now residing in Menlo Park and I'm here to tell you that The Alpine Inn (formerly Rosati's) has been a family favorite for us since 1973. I remember going there after my Dad's soccer and softball games when I was 5 years old, enjoying a juicy rectangular cheeseburger, some crispy krinkle fries, a frosty root beer and floating unwilling insects down the creek in the empty paper french fry boats.
The Alpine Inn was and still is a great spot to hangout with friends, have a few beers after the game and relax in the sun in their 'back forty'. It's a distinguished member of our Burger de Peninsula Tour which includes several legendary burger joints on the peninsula. I won't mention names because this is about 'The Inn', but if you're a local, then you know the top burger spots from Mtn View to Belmont. There are at least 6 of them and they're all local havens for local burger connoisseurs.
I'm now a father myself and I'm so stoked that The Alpine Inn has withstood the test of time and not only is the original rustic burger shack still there, but they're still serving great, tasty bar grub and reasonably priced frosty beverages. As so many historic local establishments go the way of the mullet to make room for condos and yet another strip mall, it's nice to see that I can still go to The Alpine Inn with my son and it seems as if time has stood still.
