Gov. Jerry Brown appoints Richard H. DuBois to SMC Judge
Around Town, posted by Michael G. Stogner, a resident of another community, on Aug 30, 2012 at 11:46 am

What a Huge mistake that is, This man as a commissioner has caused so much damage to so many people it is hard to imagine.

Sarah Orozco Reyes Vargas was 3 years old when she was murdered by her father, thanks to Richard H. DuBois,We are coming up on the 9 year anniversary of the Murder 9/1/03 He also ordered another Sarah back to an abusing father within months of this murder. This is the only commissioner/judge I have ever requested be removed from our bench of Judges.

R.I.P. Sarah Orozco Reyes Vargas you will never be forgotten.

Shame on you Gov. Jerry Brown

"...thanks to Richard H. DuBois,We are coming up on the 9 year anniversary of the Murder 9/1/03 "

A lawyer wrote this? You are blaming the judge for the murder??

I am blaming him because he was the judge who issued the original Restraining Order, which means he was aware of the vicious behavior of this man, This man was ordered to 52 weeks anger management which he attended 3 sessions and by the way he didn't speak english very well so there is no telling how well that went. It went well enough for him to change the RO.

I'm also blaming San Mateo County leaders (Supervisors) for doing nothing to ensure the safety of the children in our county since this murder. For example put in place an audit system to ensure people ordered to 52 week courses actually attend. Remove weapons etc.

Rosa, I just signed and passed on to friends.

Best of Luck to you and your children.

"Corruption" is a strong word, but lack of consideration for the wellbeing of children is epidemic in our family court system. It is a wretched system that leaves permanent scars on our kids, even when it doesn't kill them.

However, I cannot see that signing a petition would help one iota.

Abused, says. "However, I cannot see that signing a petition would help one iota."

You might be right, but it is the least I can do to support it.

The same thing ("I cannot see that signing a petition would help one iota") could be said about voting... but we still do it.

Posted by abused, a resident of the Menlo Park: Downtown neighborhood, on Sep 1, 2012 at 9:42 pm

That is a peculiar analogy, POGO. Lots of little drops make an ocean. Lots of votes elect a candidate. But lots of signatures on a petition -- signatures from people who do not know the litigant -- are unlikely to carry any weight in a court of law. Google "hearsay" if you don't believe me.

Where's the danger? Diverting Ms Brink from pursuing a strategy that might be more advantageous to her, such as collecting statements from witnesses.

I should have also mentioned that Sarah Orozco Reyes Vargas father who murdered her also killed himself that same day. Sept 1, 2003 Millbrae, California.

I personally delivered a letter March 9, 2004 to two San Mateo County employees, they were from the Family Court Services Office. They had made a recommendation for another Sarah to have 2 days a month unsupervised visitation with her father a firefighter. Sarah was asking for the visitation to be supervised as she had concerns that everyone involved was aware of.

I was asking them to please just double check their recommendation to avoid placing a child in harms way. I also gave a copy of this letter to Commissioner Richard H. DuBois, and the attorney for the father, also John Maltbie the County Manager and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors recieved a copy. I felt confident that a positive action would occur since just 6 months earlier a child was murdered by a parent that this commissioner ruled on. I was wrong the Commissioner struck my letter from the Court records and ordered the child Sarah to 100% physical custody to her father that she was afraid to be with just 2 days a month.

If anybody thinks for a moment that San Mateo County which has No Oversight or public audit abilities over the Cottage Industry known as the Family Law Courts and the Private Defender Program which is funded annually to the tune of $15,500,000 by our 5 Supervisors doesn't have corruption and abuses is jus not being very realistic. I would offer you to learn a little more about one of my heroes Congresswoman Nancy Schaefer (who was killed along with her husband) for speaking out on the very subject which she had over 300 cases she was aware of.

This is a serious subject matter. For reason not one Newspaper announced the appointment of Richard H. DuBois to the bench in San Mateo County. What is the process to having the Gov. appoint someone? Who vetted him? Who said he is our guy?
