Atherton police phone call to residents Atherton, posted by Appalled, a resident of the Atherton: other neighborhood, on Oct 1, 2012 at 8:16 pm
Last Thursday an Atherton police officer left a recorded message for Atherton residents, stating the police have endorsed Cary Wiest and Elizabeth Lewis and residents will not be "safe" unless they vote for them.
This is not protected union association. This is an overt threat.
How many residents will now feel afraid to put out signs for other candidates?
Col. Flint has lost control of his officers. He should resign.

"Col. Flint has lost control of his officers. He should resign."
Chief Flint is NOT responsible for police officers who are exercising, both irresponsibly and unwisely, their First Amendment Rights. The APOA phone call will do much more harm than good to their cause - which is simply job and benefit protection rather than service to the community.

"The community has no idea what this council’s doing," John Mattes told Patch. "And when I say this council, let me be crystal clear. I am not referring to Elizabeth Lewis. We supported her four years ago when she ran; we’re supporting her again."

That's what happens when you have glorified security guards as police officers. Outsource your department to the Sheriff's department and save yourselves a lot of money and agravation. It's only a matter of time before the next lawsuit.
