In yesterday's news, a sitation that has been escaating and spiralling out of control:
SAN MATEO POLICE BLOTTER: WOODSIDE
Canada and Woodside roads, 10:35 a.m. Saturday A group of cyclists, about 50 altogether, caught up with a driver who had passed them earlier, surrounded his vehicle, then punched and kicked his window and mirror."

Riding amidst a herd of cyclists not only leads to bikers flouting the rules but can result in mob mentality and mayhem. What crime could the driver have committed? Swerving to avoid cyclists who were riding six abreast, or ignoring stop signs? All we need, bandit vigilantes clad in spandex clogging our roads.

Question to car drivers ~ How many cyclists are injured or killed by careless, distracted drivers or drivers just in a rush to get somewhere? Now compare that answer to how many car drivers are injured or killed by careless, distracted cyclists in a rush to get somewhere?
No excuse for rage, but when careless car driver puts you in danger, one naturally gets upset.
Plea to car driver ~ slow down, stay off your phone, pay attention, give cyclists some space, time and courtesy.

To Arrest THem---thank you for two things, a great laugh and the best advice relative to these jerks I could have heard. I had a similar experience with two bikers a few years ago--my crime, I honked because one of them was out of the well painted bike lane.

Of course the cyclists lose when they compete with cars. Which makes me wonder why so many of them seem to have death wishes.
When I was driving my kid to school this morning, a cyclist came down a hill at a high speed, blew through a stop sign without even pausing, and forced me -- traveling on a busy street with the right of way -- to slam on my brakes. If he had been a second later, I would have hit him.
Physically, of course, it would have been worse for him. But my child and I would have had to suffer, forever, with the horror of that experience. Because he was selfish and in a hurry and exuded that I-own-the-road bicyclist bravado, he almost ruined many lives, not just his own.
I know there are cyclists who ride responsibly. But too many do not.

Didn't read the links, assume a driver that makes a mistake is investigated and cited by the police, even jailed. What about the Spandex Street Vigilantes™? How often do they get cited for all the laws they break and the dangerous situations they CREATE?
