If the Sequoia Healthcare District did not exist today, would voters support its creation with the current boundaries? Cities and school districts would have to give up a share of their property taxes.

Fact is, the District does exist, and collects a share of property taxes which would otherwise go to those cities and school districts.
Much of the benefits from those taxes spill over into adjacent areas of the county which do not pay taxes to the District.

It is also a fact that the District was created to build, operate and maintain Sequoia Hospital which they no longer own.

Voters should be given the opportunity to determine whether the District should now be dissolved. And, those who believe that Healthcare Districts are necessary, should petition for a countywide District which would collect a fair share of property taxes from all residents.

This issue is clearly one that deserves the careful attention of the taxpayers and we should insist that either the District dissolves itself or the voters get to decide if the District should be abolished.
