Judgment day Tuesday on tax dollars for Park Theatre
Around Town, posted by Editor, The Almanac Online, on Oct 1, 2007 at 6:06 pm

Lots of people have had their say about whether it's right for the Menlo Park City Council to use taxpayer dollars to restore the Park Theatre. On Oct. 2, council members plan to make a firm decision on the matter. Menlo Park resident Andy Duncan is asking the council to adopt one of two options to help him restore the 60-year-old former movie theater and turn it into a dance studio for the Menlo Park Academy of Dance.

"... had their say about whether it's right for the Menlo Park City Council to use taxpayer dollars to restore the Park Theatre [for a private business/enterprise]..."

Whether it's right???

Simple: It's NOT right!!!

----

My Scenario:

There is a building that is old in Menlo Park. Old means historic... right? Yeah, I'll call it historic to raise some eyebrows.

Anyway, I want to start a "members only" club. Menlo Park, give me a $500,000.00 (half MILLION) to restore this old building. If anyone wants to see what the taxpayer's $500,000.00 did, pay me dues to join my club and we'll let you in. Otherwise, you can wait 50 years to come inside my private enterprise/business.

Don't like my idea? Ok... Menlo Park, buy the bulding and spend some cash on fixing up the joint. I want you to give me a below market lease for 50 years and I'll pay it every year. Want to see the inside of the building? Again, pay the dues to enter my private enterprise/business.
