What is proposed for the revamp of Oak Knoll School is not what we voted for. Of course those of us who believe in good schools and good education voted for a bond measure to improve Oak Knoll Elementary. The preliminary plan used to promote the bond measure took into consideration the needs of the site and the neighborhood. What is now in design is a plan which (a) opens the school ground to a busy street, Oak Avenue, and (b) does away with the green space and play area dedicated to the younger children. Anyone who uses Oak Avenue to access Sand Hill Road will be adversely affected, NOT JUST THE SCHOOL'S IMMEDIATE NEIGHBORHOOD.  MANY WEST MENLO RESIDENTS USE OAK AVENUE TO CONNECT WITH SAND HILL ROAD. Especially if you commute between 7:45 and 8:30 you will see delays as cars and service vehicles use the proposed new parking lot and parents are walking their children to school from the Oak Avenue side. If you use Oak Avenue to access Sand Hill Road you will be impacted. Oak avenue is the ingress and egress for a large section of West Menlo and there is no other street to take. THERE IS NO SPACE FOR SIDEWALKS, THERE IS NO PROPOSED CROSSWALK, THERE IS NO SPACE FOR BIKE LANES. This plan needs your attention.
