What's Cooking: Spice Hut Bistro spiffs up decor, expands space and menu

Original post made on Nov 12, 2007

Just in time for its first anniversary in Menlo Park, the Spice Hut Bistro has shifted its dining room to the southern end of its home at 625 Oak Grove Ave. at Maloney Lane — and added a huge dash of elegance in the process.

Hey,
Nice to see the place have come up well. Yes Nandu, whom i know personally, has been (sort of dreaming) for a while vehemently marketing about this grand transition for a while, and yes i have been teasing him quite a bit about the delay in their shift from that old cafeteria sort of place, but kudos Nandu, you did make it finally, he deserves to be praised for his patience and persistent marketing to all his customers (god, he retains them!) about his upcoming venture-which is now a reality, must be a great relief for him...good luck..menlo park needed a place like this.

Have to add that we got takeout there this weekend for the first time, and 2 thumbs up! Everything was delicous, prety affordable, and the staff super friendly. The place looks very cozy and pleasant for a relaxing meal, and it just made it to the top of my list for walkable takeout (with 2 little kids, in restaurant dining is just a pipedream for a while).

I tried it a couple of times. I'm not impressed.
Better value at Suraj in Redwood City.

I absolutely love Spice Hut. Everything is very fresh, delicious, and having been to south India, very authentic, reminding me of home-cooked meals. And the spices are moderate - OK for most American palates. I eat there at least once a week!
