Sen. Joe Simitian loses seat on education finance subcommittee
Schools & Kids, posted by Editor, The Almanac Online, on Feb 23, 2008 at 6:52 pm

State Sen. Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) will keep his chairmanship of the Senate Environmental Quality Committee but will lose his seat on the Budget Subcommittee on Educational Finance under an exercise of party discipline for taking an independent stance on massive school budget cuts.

tragic news that Simitian's experience is out of favor ... but a validation of blocking Prop 93 to take Perata out of office. Perata is the same one who removed Reed Hastings from state board of education for political reasons.

With Prop 93 no longer propping Perata in office, hopefully the new Senate leadership will put Joe back on the Education committee.

I went to Joe Simitian's Educational Update a few weeks ago. He has a great grasp of educational finance -- and a solid commitment to our schools. I can only assume that Perata is so keen to give Arnold enough rope to kill himself -- piling up the pain -- that he's perfectly willing to tolerate any pain to California school-children. For shame.

I've written my East Bay friends/family asking them to protest to Perata directly (his district includes Berkeley, Alameda, etc.). I hope others do the same
