Editorial: What to do about charter schools

Original post made on Sep 5, 2008

Before local high school officials and parents get too worked up about a recent petition for a new charter high school, they should take a look at the performance and financial acumen of Summit Preparatory Charter High School, a highly successful Redwood City charter school in its sixth year of operation. Excellent article, thank you for highlighting the contributions of charter schools! I know there's resistance to charter schools from some corners, but the fact is, they're making our whole district stronger. More kids are getting a better education, and it's not costing us any extra! That's a win-win. In the end, all of the schools will learn from each other, continue to improve, and our kids will be better off for it. Thanks!

This should be a complete no-brainer for collaboration and sharing of best practices. Thank you for providing a balanced perspective instead of the usual emotionally overcharged perspective of the SUHSD board and teacher's union. Summit's metrics speak for themselves as well as the enrollment demands for the school from our community. Everest could be filled tomorrow if approved!
