Atherton's lawsuit against the high school district

Atherton has sued the Sequoia Union High School District to stop construction of the new $26 million performing arts center on the campus of Menlo-Atherton High School.

With the potential for worsening existing rainwater runoff problems at the intersection of Ravenswood Avenue and Middlefield Road, plus the potential need for extra police services at theater events, Atherton says the school district needs to do an environmental impact report, an idea the school district disputes.

Atherton is also concerned about use of the theater by the city of Menlo Park, which is kicking in $2.6 million in exchange for using the theater for artistic and children's events. Atherton wants Menlo Park to request a permit for schedule changes or when deviating from the patterns of use laid out during the first year of operation.
