Portola Valley: special meeting on Town Center

The special meeting is being called because a lack of a quorum forced an early adjournment to the regular Sept. 27 council meeting.
On the agenda for the council's vote is a resolution to proceed with the building of a new Portola Road entrance to the Town Center at the northern edge of the property near the softball field. The strip of land was acquired in a land swap with Christ Episcopal Church.
The new entrance will allow direct vehicle access to the new complex of buildings to be built where the tennis courts are now. Town plans show the tennis courts being relocated to the southern end of the 11.2-acre Town Center, near the Spring Down Equestrian Center.
The work at the new entrance includes removing existing asphalt of the parking lot and preparing the ground for repaving and installing a berm for new landscaping. Other work associated with the project, scheduled for completion by Oct. 31, includes the building of a property line fence and a retaining wall, new paving and parking lot striping.
