Three Stanford men's teams could very well be strengthened next fall by the addition of three top area athletes who have made commitments to continue their athletic careers on The Farm next fall. Menlo School seniors Danny Diekroeger (baseball) and Jamin Ball (tennis - see photo) will be joined by Bellarmine senior Matt Taylor (soccer). All three are among the best in their sports in the Central Coast Section.

Congrats to these great athletes on choosing Stanford as their school of choice. However, unless I'm missing something, these kids are not "headed to Stanford" until their acceptance letters arrive in the mail. While coaches certainly can give input to the Admissions office, it is up to the Office of Admissions to confer acceptance to the university and even early decisions are not made until December. Perhaps your reporters or caption writers should be a little more careful about the words they choose before misrepresenting the facts.

I thought Admissions didn't give out offers until December - do athletic recruits fall under a different admissions schedule?
It would be really interesting for the Almanac readers if the Almanac could interview Stanford admissions and athletics and do a story on how this all works.

Athletes can apply and be accepted much earlier than even normal Early Decision applicants (as early as August). All three of these guys have been accepted to the school already.
