Atherton Straw Poll Favors Strong Mayor
Atherton, posted by t Rex, a resident of the Atherton: Lindenwood neighborhood, on Jan 17, 2010 at 11:27 am

An informal poll conducted by the Atherton League of Interested Civilians (ALIC) shows strong support for charter change in which Atherton's Council Manager form of government would be replaced by a strong mayor.

The funding for the straw poll and the originating sponsor remain unclear. However by a 3 to 1 margin, registered and likely voters expressed a clear mandate for change.

One voter seems to have expressed a sentiment held by many in saying that, a City Manager is like a dictatorship, no matter how benevolent it is vastly inferior to a direct democracy.

Let me put it this way: we definitely need a strong mayor, if not by the literal form of government definition, at least as an adjective.

Here is a revolutionary idea. Overthrow the illegitimate unelected shadow government that pulls the strings of the Council and Manager as though they were puppets.

Freedom Now!

A revolution is not a dinner party, or writing an essay, or painting a picture, or doing embroidery.

All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.

We have the best government that money can buy.
