Boys Varsity Baseball: M-A Drops Seesaw Battle to Washington (S.F.), 12-9
Sports, posted by Bob Moriarty, Team Parent, a resident of the Portola Valley: Ladera neighborhood, on Mar 20, 2010 at 9:06 pm

Menlo-Atherton generated a season-high 12 hits but couldn’t overcome four costly errors in dropping a 12-9 decision to Washington (San Francisco) Saturday afternoon, March 20, at M-A.

Washington’s Walter James and Alex Kozakiewicz drove in three runs apiece to pace the Eagles’ attack, while Jeff Keller once again led M-A with three hits and three RBIs. Keller’s multi-hit effort raised his season batting average to .666.

Menlo-Atherton led a seesaw battle, 9-8, heading into the sixth inning, but then saw Washington score four runs aided by two M-A errors, a walk, and a hit batter. Dane Vande Guchte pitched the final three innings to earn the victory for Washington, while M-A pitcher Kyle Zirbes took the loss. The defeat dropped M-A’s record to 2-4, while Washington is now 10-3.

Casey Eason, Cam Winn, and Patrick Moriarty had two hits apiece for Menlo-Atherton, which returns to action on Monday afternoon, March 22, at Sacred Heart Prep.
