Boys Varsity Baseball: M-A Falls to Capital Christian-Sacramento 10-5 in Cordova Easter Tournament
Sports, posted by Bob Moriarty, Team Parent, a resident of the Portola Valley: Ladera neighborhood, on Mar 30, 2010 at 10:45 pm

Capital Christian-Sacramento “capitalized” on two costly M-A errors to score two runs in the fifth inning, then added four more in the sixth to defeat Menlo-Atherton, 10-5, in the Cordova Easter Tournament on Tuesday morning in Rancho Cordova. Capital Christian’s Ben Ritchey pitched a complete game, scattering seven M-A hits while throwing 121 pitches.

After Capital Christian took a 2-0 lead in the first, M-A answered with three runs in the third on a double by Kyle Zirbes, an error and passed ball, and an RBI groundout by Chris Gow. The Cougars came right back in the bottom of the third with two more runs off M-A starting pitcher Austin Hume, keyed by Brock Hansen’s second double of the day and a fielder’s choice. Hume took the loss for M-A, yielding four runs on six hits while striking out five.

M-A’s offense was led by Zirbes and Nils Gilbertson, both of whom ripped doubles for the Bears. In addition, Gow drove in two runs for M-A.

The defeat dropped M-A’s overall season record to 6-5, and Cordova Easter Tournament record to 1-1.
