Boys Varsity Baseball: M-A Falls to Wood-Vacaville 10-6 in Cordova Easter Tournament
Sports, posted by Bob Moriarty, Team Parent, a resident of the Portola Valley: Ladera neighborhood, on Mar 30, 2010 at 10:46 pm

Wood-Vacaville held Menlo-Atherton to just two hits to defeat the Bears, 10-6, in the Cordova Easter Tournament Tuesday afternoon in Rancho Cordova. The defeat dropped M-A’s overall season record to 6-6, and its Cordova tournament mark to 1-2.

Wood overcame a 4-3 M-A lead with two runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to claim the victory. In all, the Wildcats stroked 14 hits off three different M-A pitchers. Menlo-Atherton starting pitcher Chace Warren kept the Bears close with 5 1/3 innings of solid work, but was victimized in the fifth inning by a double, a walk, and an error as Wood took the lead for good.

M-A benefited from eight walks, but its bats were relatively silent, mustering only a two-run double by Jeff Keller in the third and an RBI single by Patrick Moriarty in sixth. The Bears’ other runs scored on a wild pitch, a steal of home by Keller, and on an RBI fielder’s choice by Nils Gilbertson.

M-A returns to action on Wednesday morning against Rio Linda in the Cordova Easter Tournament.
