Woodside, posted by Editor, The Almanac Online, on Jan 3, 2011 at 10:46 am

Personally, to see a van pull into a local business parking lot and out come 10 cyclists with bikes and not patronize the businesses there, but only use the parking lot while they cycle our neighborhoods is not a good neighbor approach.

Parking in bike lanes is offensive as well as dangerous. They give us one little gravelly, beat-up sliver of pavement and tell us to stay there or get a ticket, then they put their cars in the middle of that sliver!

How about a community bike area in the neighborhood of Canada and Runnymede Road? There is lots of parking and it's a very short distance for bicyclists to ride to town if they want to eat or shop. It could make a positive difference for everyone.

Excellent idea, Woody! Be sure to put a porta-potty there, too, and a water fountain. A positive solution like this does a lot more than complaints and hostility.
