Menlo Atherton 7th inning win against Carlmont
Sports, posted by Linda Lange, a member of the Menlo-Atherton High School community, on Apr 7, 2011 at 11:27 am

The Menlo Atherton Bears baseball team scores 7 in the seventh to top Carlmont by a score of 10-7 for their second win in a row. The Bears started off hot scoring 2 runs in the first on 3 singles by Kyle Zirbes, Nick Lange and Sam Falkenhagen. But, Carlmont answered back in their half of the inning with 2 runs on 2 doubles and a single. The starting pitchers, Miles Brewer for the Bears and Bradley Levine for Carlmont, settled down for 3 scoreless innings until Carlmont broke out in the 5th with 4 runs on 2 singles, 2 walks, a balk and 2 sacrifices (bunt and fly). Nick Bongi came in in relief for Carlmont holding the Bears to 1 run in 2 innings until the fateful 7th when all went wrong for Carlmont and right for the Bears. Ryan Cortez shut out Carlmont in the 6th earning the win as his team surged ahead. Making good contact, MA forced 4 errors, scored on a passed ball, stole home on a first and third play and sacrificed 3 times (bunt, fly, and fly with error) against relief pitcher Daniel Madigan. In relief in the 7th, Chace Warren got the first out and then gave up a home run to Colton Hicks prompting a change to lefty Nick Lange, who with 2 men on, struck out the tying run and got a ground ball to Alex Aguiar at third who snapped a throw to first for the final out, earning Lange the save. It was a hard fought game setting the stage for the Friday re-match at MA.
