Parcel Tax For Bay Restoration?
Other Topics, posted by Jack Hickey, a resident of the Woodside: Emerald Hills neighborhood, on Jun 30, 2011 at 10:57 pm

There is a movement afoot to pursue a parcel tax for bay restoration. See: Web Link

Excerpt: "Former Assembly Member Sally Lieber will discuss the proposed Cargill development in Redwood City, as well as a proposal for a 2012 parcel tax to support Bay restoration."

I propose that such noble efforts should be supported from within the 1% property taxes now collected. Since the incumbents can't decide which programs deserve more support than others, let the voters decide.

I have referred to this as the Meritorious Programs Act. If voters were presented with an opportunity to allocate a small percentage of the 1% tax to restore the bay through purchase of property rights, you might get some action. The key here, of course, is there would be NO NEW TAXES.
