Bulletproof the sheriff cars, drive with runflats, mostly unmarked and actually mistakeable vehicles and question everybody who is doing something LEGITIMATELY wrong. Be nice to the occupents and residents of the city who are not doing anything wrong, don't illegally take drugs from people and let them go on a "warning". respect them like they deserve and the place will be a much nicer atmosphere...

As a resident of the East side with many friends in EPA I'm not shocked at the fact that crime is again on the rise. The police are just too busy dealing with day to day issues to deal with these chronic thugs. I heard that East Palo alto does not want the Sheriff in town. But that may be a short term solution. The news reported that Chief Davis implemented Operation Cease Fire and he was going to work with other police to stop the violence. Well where are they? The only recent news I heard is the two Menlo Park Detectives arresting and convicting a thug with a .45 hand gun they chased and arrested in East Palo Alto. Seems like we need to bring the Sheriff task force and the Menlo Park Task Force back. I havnt seen them in their cars and SUV's in a long time. There has been at least four murders that I know of and one is solved. Thats three too many.

Chief Davis will not allow the Sheriff back in due to his own inflated ego. He disbanded them back in 2005/2006 so the power could be all his. What he did not realize or simply cannot admit, East Palo Alto cannot ever have the resources the Sheriff's Office has. The small police department is overwhelmed and understaffed every day. If Davis would pull up his big boy pants, he would realize that the more help he gets, the better off the City of East Palo Alto would be in the end. It is not about him. This is about dealing with the out of control crime that has and, at this rate, always will terrorize and ruin the quality of life for those people in East Palo Alto who are not of the criminal element just trying to live in peace and safety.

to Law and Order:
Don't worry about crime "always" terrorizing East Palo Alto. With new Facebook moving into the Sun campus and 20+ other high-tech businesses moving into Menlo Park(not including the 100+ that are currently occupying Palo Alto), the facebook employees and high-tech company employees will be moving in ever so slightly, gradually pushing low-income residents out and into places like Newark, Hayward, and other low-income areas across the bay. At the rate the Belle-Haven area has been promised to progress financially and cosmetically by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg over the course of the next decade, East Palo Alto will be just another Yuppie filled neighborhood without even the current law-abiding families able to afford housing in East Palo Alto.
Get ready for the biggest transformation of the Peninsula anyone could ever imagine=facebookland.
