Peninsula Bike Party: Facebook history tour
Around Town, posted by Andrew Boone, a resident of the Menlo Park: The Willows neighborhood, on Jan 25, 2012 at 12:38 am

Peninsula Bike Party is a monthly night-time urban social bike ride that meets every 4th Friday of the month. It's free and everyone's welcome.

Previous rides that have passed through Menlo Park included December's Holiday Lights Tour, October's Haunted Halloween Ride, and September's Bicycle Boulevards & Bridges Tour.

This month's ride will celebrate Facebook's move to Menlo Park with a Facebook History Tour - a bike tour of Facebook's former and current office locations through Palo Alto and Menlo Park.

The ride will start from Lytton Plaza in downtown Palo Alto (University Ave & Emerson St) at 7:30 pm, on Friday, January 27, 2012.

That's where Facebook leased its first "normal" offices - downtown Palo Alto. After expanding to 10 different offices buildings in downtown Palo Alto between 2004 and 2009, Facebook moved to 1601 California Ave in 2009 and 1050 Page Mill Rd in 2010, both located in the Stanford Research Park. Facebook quickly outgrew those buildings and finished relocating to the former Sun Microsystems Campus at 1601 Willow Rd, Menlo Park just before Christmas 2011.

The ride's total distance is 16 miles on flat terrian. It'll be dark, especially out near the Menlo Park Facebook Campus, so be sure to bring all your favorite bike lights!

In addition to visiting Facebook past and current offices, the route will also pass by two of Palo Alto's recent innovative bicycle improvements - the Bike Corral on Ramona St and Green Bike Lanes on Channing Ave. The ride will also visit the new Ringwood Ave Bike Bridge over Highway 101, currently under construction.

Everyone's welcome!
