We'll see how long this post stays up, if indeed it makes it at all. I am going to be referring to the current posting on this forum, BY THE EDITOR, regarding the decison of the current Mayor of MP to enter the race for SM County Supervisor. My comments are not about whether she will make a good supervisor or not, but rather about two issues. First, the fact that the EDITOR saw it appropriate to limit discussion on the topic to registered users only (why?) and also chose to ignore the fact that Peter Carpenter, a very vocal proponent against anonymous posting, to change the subject of the thread to the subject of why anonymous posting is evil rather than sticking to the topic (a term of use I believe and one which I have seen the Almanac enforce on others in the past-deleting off subject comments).
As for Ms. Kieth's decision to run for higher office, what on earth is wrong with someone taking career steps--don't forget her numerous years of service on the Planning Commission. So she aspires to higher office; I personally embrace the idea of hiring people to political roles who aspire to make that field a career. Personally, I'll listen to her positions, evaluate her against other candidates, and then make my voting decision.

" the EDITOR saw it appropriate to limit discussion on the topic to registered users only"
Its the Editors' Forum so they get to set the rules.
Why do you find registering so threatening? Do you refuse to register to vote? Do you refuse to register your car? Do you refuse to register for Social Security? And all of those registrations create a public record whereas registering for this Forum does not.

It certainly is not my Forum - if it were then there would no unregistered anonymous posters. As it is not my Forum I just do the best that I can to help make it a thoughtful gathering place (rather than just wandering through from time to time).

WhoRUpeople, I'm not sure which thread you're referring to that was limited to registered users because I'm not the editor who restricted it. But I'm hoping the following general information will be helpful.
Typically, editors restrict a thread to registered users when a problem poster or posters settle in and engage in personal attacks and unsupported accusations of unethical behavior or wrongdoing. Removing posts by the same TOU violator(s) over and over again becomes tiresome quickly, so we restrict.
You're always welcome to begin a new thread, which will stay open to all posters as long as they are responsible in what they write.
